Concrete
What You Should know about It
Concrete is a vital part to all construction. You can have the strongest concrete in the world, but if the area was not properly prepped, and/or the concrete was not properly applied and finished, expect problems, usually costly problems. Check references and get detailed quotes. We don't recommend hiring a concrete contractor with little experience.
Concrete footings are where everything starts. You must have solid earth before pouring the concrete. Many times foundation walls crack because the footer has cracked. Adding metal rebar to footings will help protect the footers from separating and lifting which create the cracks in the masonry wall. Rebar is an additional cost but highly recommended.
Concrete Floors when done properly, they should last a lifetime and look great. Again it all starts with the preparation.
2B size Stone should be placed 4" thick on solid earth. Many times plastic is laid down for a vapor barrier before pouring a floor. Expansion joints are critical, as concrete needs to expand and contract. Concrete must be poured at the right consistency
adding too much water can ruin the concrete. We don't recommend "off the shelf sealers" to seal the concrete. Concrete can be stained with special stains and dyes. Many times the dyes are added at the concrete plant.
