An aluminum cap should be the replacement. Most chimney's have an old cement cap on them that is likely cracked. If your chimney is not getting the right draft you may need a new liner or the chimney may need extended. Many times depending on how the weather hits your chimney, it may need re pointing on that side only. The proper sealer for the masonry on your chimney could prevent this.

There are numerous other factors that could cause a chimney or fireplace to malfunction.
